2022 is Year of the Tiger in the Chinese Zodiac, a figure that represents a positive and challenging spirit, with strong conviction and confidence. To commemorate the Year of the Tiger, Koyudo have released their limited-edition powder brush, KOKUZO.
Kokuzo Bosatsu is a Japanese Buddhist deity who is the guardian of the Year of the Tiger, 'kokuzo' meaning a storehouse (‘zo’) of infinite treasures. Kokuzo Bosatsu is revered as the provider of wisdom, happiness and prosperity, and one who bestows memory, intelligence, artistic talents, and technical skills on devotees.
The handle of Koyudo’s KOKUZO powder brush is decorated with a golden tiger mother-of-pearl inlay and maki-e lacquer. Raden (mother-of-pearl inlay) is a traditional technique used in Toyama Prefecture to inlay the lustrous iridescent nacreous layer inside a shell onto a carved surface such as lacquer or wood. The bristles are made of the highest quality saikoho goat, which are very soft against the skin and suitable for applying powder and finishing.
