Tauhaus is based in Kumano Japan, and part of the Kumanofude organization of brush makers in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. The area boasts the largest volume of brush artisans in Japan, who draw on traditional technique of calligraphy brush making. Tauhaus brushes are handmade by skilled craftspeople, who specialize in the different areas of assembly, then the brush artisan finishes the bristles.

Tauhaus aims to unite functionality and design, paying close attention to the overall shape of brush, quality of bristles and the feel of brushes in the hand of its user. Their brushes are made in small-batch production due to the time-consuming nature of selecting bristles, handmade production and quality control.
