Meet the Maker: Nakamura Seisakusho

In the countryside of southern Kumano in Hiroshima prefecture, Nakamura Seisakusho was founded in the early Showa period (1953) as a manufacturer of metal fittings. Over the next two decades, the company learned the value of meticulous attention to detail in production, and of creating products that are reliable and durable – as well as attractive. In the 1970s, the company started to create makeup brushes, applying this understanding and proficiency.

While carefully preserving the traditions of brush making, Nakamura Seisakusho aims not to just replicate the work of predecessors, but to constantly innovate. The company's ultimate goal is satisfaction in the hand of the makeup brush user – whether they're a professional MUA or a home makeup enthusiast.

Nakamura Seisakusho crafts several series of makeup brushes, each with a distinctive style, each carefully crafted and resonating an air of sophistication. Materials according to various makeup needs and applications, such as the softness on the skin and ease of care. Brushes are designed with everyday use in mind, making comfort and ease of care two foundations in their design.

Bristles at Nakamura are various types of natural hair, synthetic bristles, and a combination of both, which are chosen based on the characteristics of the material (such as elasticity and product absorption). One important innovation of the company is its development of an ultra-fine synthetic bristle with a diameter of 0.05mm. These ultra-fine bristles are mixed with natural bristles to an optimal ratio and even distribution, with the tips preserved – an original innovation of Nakamura Seisakusho.

Nakamura Seisakusho is a certified Kumanofude producer. This coveted mark is a certification given to makers of paintbrushes, calligraphy brushes, and makeup brushes, who meet the regulations determined by the Kumanofude Cooperative. Kumanofude brushes are officially recognized by the Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry as a traditional craft of Japan.
